I'm insane - are you just getting that now?

Welcome to my lair. I shall be called The Procrastinator in near future when I take over the world. But since I am, in fact, the Procrastinator, I won't take over the world because I have other things to do. So you can call me Meon. Or Martin. Or you can call me... Marty... no wait, this is not a Cabin Pressure Character, really, you can call me Martin if you like, or Meon. ...or Martin. err... I am something between a maniac, evil genius (without really being a genius) and a human genderqueer brit-loving umbrella-carrying deerstalker-wearing book-devouring gent. Don't be afraid, I can be nice and evil. Whatever shakes your boat.

I don’t understand how the Cabin Pressure fandom is so angst filled. It’s a radio comedy. Yet we all make it into a tragedy.

#it just doesn’t really make sense

Have we been listening to the same show?

Douglas had three failed marriages; we know his third wife cheated on him and his comment “basically familiar territory” might mean that at least one of the others did, too. He also lost his job as captain at Air England and has to defer to a man clearly not as good as him (sorry, Martin).

Carolyn struggles with a company that’s always about to go bust. On top of that, she has a horrible ex-husband who always tries to get back her plane, the only thing that makes her feel like she’s doing something with her life and not just a little old lady.

Arthur isn’t very intelligent which he probably has been told his entire life. I’d wager that’s one of the reasons Carolyn finally divorced Gordon. Remember when Arthur called him only ‘alright’? Martin’s right, Gordon must be awful, and he really is.

And of course, Martin. The only pilot who took seven times to get his license. Who lives in a tiny attic with some agriculture students and only has enough money for toast and pasta and sometimes, a baked potato. And he gets that money from his second job because Carolyn won’t actually pay him. Martin, whose father didn’t believe in him and before he could show him, his father died. Martin, who loses every bet because it isn’t his life.

So tell me again it’s a surprise this fandom is so angsty.

To conclude:

That’s what makes it such a brilliant comedy- is it has such a bleak and tragic backdrop.

John Finnemore is a genius.

You even forgot a few points, there is even MORE tragic:

Douglas is a recovering alcoholic probably looking back on years of alcohol abuse and sickness, rehab and problems with his family because of this. He has at least one child, a daughter living with his second(?) ex-wife, probably an estranged child which could be rather hurtful for a fatherly person like Douglas.

Carolyn has also a horrible sister whom she hasn’t spoken to in years who is still able to make her flustered and almost cry. She has also been through two divorces, we don’t know much about her first husband apart from the fact that her sister rather liked him, doesn’t sound very good if you ask me.

Arthur, in my eyes is downright frighned by his father, when Carolyn asks him if he is ready to meet him his voice is so small and breaking that I just want to break into tears. Also basically all the time, even if he is in the right (Ottery StMary) people call him stupid and a clot and always assume that he is in the wrong.

AND I CAN’T EVEN TALK ABOUT MARTIN WITHOUT GETTING A FUNNY TONE IN MY VOICE

WHO CALLS CABIN PRESSURE A COMEDY AGAIN?!
