YES. Jesus, thank you.
I cannot tell you how many times I have had to point out what the audience at conventions actually LOOKS like to people in the industry. They can do signings in a booth full of every kind of person all day long, every color, every size, every orientation and more, and STILL go online and talk about how only white straight males read comics.
IT IS PROFOUNDLY UNTRUE AND INSULTINGLY IGNORANT.

"The Women Men Don’t See" — James Tiptree, Jr. (AKA Rebecca Sheldon — thanks, buggeryisthegenus)
And really — the *everyone* men don’t see, when you get right down to it. They don’t see us, they’re convinced we don’t spend money — not on the merch they want to make, anyway — and, if we make so much noise that they have to acknowledge us anyway?
Well, we’re not “real” fans.

“Transgender people have a 1-in-12 chance of being murdered, compared to the 1-in-18,000 chance faced by average Americans (Human Rights Campaign, 2009).”

just let that sink in for a second.

“average Americans”

Fuck everything about the HRC.

*cisgender Americans

"Average" means they wanted to put "normal" but couldn’t because that would be too obvious.

Russia have just passed a unanimous vote to make it illegal to tell young children that gay people exist, or that homosexuals are on the same level as heterosexuals. The law is so openly worded that it could be considered illegal to offer gay individuals couselling or safe sex advice. Braking of the law could end up a fine, jail time or immediate deportation to foreigners. (http://thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/russia-poised-to-pass-bill-making-it-illegal-to-tell-children-gay-people-exist/politics/2013/06/11/68483)

Greece have just deemed transgendered people to be ‘undesirables’ on their streets. For the last week they have raided the streets of Thessaloniki, Greeces second largest city, and have been rounding up TG people and arresting them. Everyone arrested has their details taken down and are detained for several hours before being released on the warning that they must ‘return to normal’ or they will be arrested for public indecency. (http://www.2ndcouncilhouse.co.uk/blog/2013/06/05/and-then-they-came-for-the-trans-people/)

While this generation is usually not something to rave about, we are still supposed to be in that stage of movement, of beginning to accept people for who they are, rather than what we expect them to be.

Who gives anyone the right to decide that they are better than someone else?

Why are we going backwards….

Because ignorance breeds ignorance.
:/

So shitty…

Oh jeez, I knew about Russia but not Greece. Wow.

Every time I post something about Norman Reedus and it gets reblogged you fangirls just gotta swoon and add your own cutesy caption. Nothing against fangirls but here’s a challenge. Swoon over this! Good luck.

moniquill:

OP, it is clear that you have a fundamental misunderstanding of one or more of the following:
‘fangirls’
‘swooning’
‘challenge’
I mean we could probably use this as a really interesting launching point for the fundamental disconnect between ‘what people actually find hot’ and ‘what society/patriarchy presumes is hot’ and how the assignations of gender roles and sexuality fuck with that. Like the presumption that the female gaze doesn’t even exist, or if it does that women-intersted-in-men find the same things about men sexy that men-interested-in-women presume they do/should.
I mean, how many ‘porn for straight women’ magazines have tried to launch and asked a bunch of straight women what they wanted in porn -and gotten answers of ‘smiling dudes’ ‘dudes giving bedroom eyes’ and ‘cock’ - only to then said ‘yeah no, we’re giving you tough,aloof-looking shirtless guys with power muscles and weapons instead (because regardless of what any of you say you want we know that the majority of you want tough looking guys with power muscles and weapons because that’s what masculinity is because sexiness is feminine-coded. I mean obviously the only reason a man would display in a sexually-inviting way (as opposed to an aggressive way or a disinterested way) is if he’s trying to attract a man! Ergo anything in which a man is display in a sexually inviting or (gasp) submissive way is gay gay gay gay gay and thus the anti-masculine and no woman would ever want it. We know better than you what you like and want and find sexy) and then failed and blamed the failure on the totally legit and well known phenomenon that women just don’t get off on visual stimuli they’d rather read erotica.
But I’m too busy getting off on images like the above.

All of the above. Also: oh damn I’d tap that so hard.

Same.

Fuck Yeah Body Confidence is not a safe space for trans* and intersex people.

shakethecobwebs:

[TRIGGER WARNING FOR CISSEXISM]

They reblogged this picture and added a caption that said “this is a safe space for both sexes and all body types.”

image

Shortly afterward, they received an anonymous message:

image

It says “Before anyone gives you shit, you should probably change it to “all genders” instead of “both sexes.” Love this blog <3.”

To which FYBC replied: “Except that both sexes covers it. Thanks for following.”

When further questioned about their cissexism:

image

They were asked ““both sexes covers it.” So you don’t accept transsexual or intersex bodies or anything in between? Huh.”

FYBC replied: “As I have explained already to one person.

Sex and gender are not the same thing. Sex is biological, gender is social (predominantly). And intersexuality is not only so rare that it becomes insignificant for science purposes, but intersex people present female. Therefore, both sexes. Don’t get so worked up over something so insignificant, it’s the internet, man.”

Then, FYBC made another mistake. They’re on a roll, so why not, right?

image

image

image

They admitted that their blog is not meant to be intersectional, that they shouldn’t accept criticism because it’s technically a “personal blog” even though her personal blog is actually this one, she also calls people who don’t fit in the gender and sex binaries “abnormal” and follows up by saying that she’s willing to help anyone, even if they’re a “muppet,” which is clearly another way in which she is shaming and dehumanizing people who don’t fit in normative gender and sex binaries.

TL;DR The blog fuckyeahbodyconfidence and tumblr user ohh-elle are not safe spaces for trans* and intersex people.

I’ve never liked their blog because they don’t seem to be a safe space for fat people and they’re okay with promoting weight loss “progress” posts. They also have a really gross link to another tumblr on their sidebar for a blog called “gentlemen prefer curves” - as if anyone should give a fuck what men prefer when this blog is supposedly trying to instill confidence in people of all body types. These are just a few reasons to add them to a list of shitty blogs.

Signal boost, spread the word, protect yourselves.
